“Kuchnia Pachnąca Tradycją (Tradition-Scented Cuisine)” is a project implemented by the Augustów Town Hall and the Druskininkai Tourist and Business Information Centre, co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the state budget within the framework of the Small Projects Fund of the Poland-Lithuania Cross-border Co-operation Programme 2007-2013.
Project activities are focused on the new tourist product – a chain of certified restaurants and other catering facilities in Augustów (Poland) and Druskininkai (Lithuania). Certification of restaurants and other catering facilities in both cities should help tourists in the identification of such facilities and the quality of their services. Certification stickers, placed within eyeshot show-windows or restaurant doors, as well as a brief description of the facilities in a special brochure published in relation to the project, will help tourists select a suitable eating-place, and provide efficient promotion of the facilities.
A special logo will be designed for the purpose of the project, which will serve as a quality certificate of facilities entitled to use it.
Culinary workshops will be held, hosted by instructors from Poland and Lithuania, which will allow the participants to discover the regional cuisines of both countries, and diversify the menus of restaurants in Augustów and Druskininkai.
The advantages of participation in the certification programme, such as common promotion, or permission to use the project logo in marketing, will surely convince the owners of restaurants which did not offer regional dishes, to introduce them to the menus, apply for the title of “a place with taste”, and to maintain a high quality of services.
The project also includes a picnic to be held in Augustów on 13 and 14 August 2010, with the aim of familiarising residents and tourists with the town’s cultural heritage, and especially the regional cuisine. During that event, certified facilities from Augustów and Druskininkai will have the opportunity to present their offer. It will also be a great occasion to assess the results of cookery workshops held earlier as part of the project. The participation of the Augustów Tourism Organisation, associating tourist and catering service providers operating on the Augustów District, will ensure the lasting nature of the project, and the possibility of its continuation and extension over the entire district area.

Project budget in total: 82,075.25 EUR
Cost of activities implemented by the Augustów Town Hall: 64,694.75 EUR
Subsidisation from the European Regional Development Fund amounts to 85%.
